Keyhole Surgery

Minimal Access Surgery (Laparoscopic) or "keyhole" surgery has the great advantage that it enables surgery to be performed without the need for large incisions. This means that patients experience significantly less post-operative pain, unsightly scars, a shorter convalescence, rapid return to work and the same if not improved surgical results.

It involves the use of high-tech cameras and telescopes inserted into the body via specialized ports that allow the surgeon to clearly view the internal organs. Although laparoscopic surgery was initially confined to diagnostic "look and see" procedures, appropriately trained laparoscopic surgeons can now perform almost all gynaecological procedures via these small incisions.

Mr Elkington performs keyhole surgery for the conditions below:

    Hysterectomy
    Removal of endometriosis
    Sterilisation
    Tubal surgery
    Ovarian cyst removal
    Ovary removal
    Incontinence surgery
